According to the US Geological Survey, the quake, which occurred at 10:23 a.m. on Friday, April 5, was centered in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, in the borough of Lebanon, about 60 miles west of midtown Manhattan.
Fairfield County resident Ashley Garrison, of Easton, said her pictures began shaking on her walls, and she ran outside, where the ground was shaking.
Daily Voice reader Robert DeMassa said he felt it in Stratford.
Connecticut Gov. Phil Lamont reported that state officials are working with emergency management officials to respond to the earthquake.
"Stay alert for any updates from local officials," Lamont told residents on the X Platform.
Officials with the state Department of Emergency Management & Homeland Security said they are monitoring the situation and will provide updates.
Stamford Assistant Police Chief Richard Conklin said the police department building shook, but no damage was detected.
"Residents should be calm," Conklin said. "So far, no damage has been reported."
Startled residents also took to X and other online platforms to say they felt the shaking.
